CHINA INTERNATIONAL ECONOMIC AND TRADE ARBITRATION COMMISSION

On November 15, the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (“RCEP”) was officially signed, which is the world’s largest Free Trade Agreement (“FTA”) and also a comprehensive, modern, high-quality and reciprocal FTA. The conclusion of the RCEP is bound to further promote the integration of regional industries and value chains, and provide a new and strong driving force for regional economic integration and for building a modern and strong nation. At the same time, with trade protectionism, unilateralism combined with the outbreak of COVID-19 raging around the world, it is difficult for enterprises to “go global” to attend exhibitions and obtain foreign trade orders. The overseas operation of enterprises is under multiple risks in the transactions. The development of foreign trade is under pressure. The legal risks are also increasingly prominent.

In view of the situation, on December 15, 2020, CIETAC Southwest Sub-Commission and China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) Chongqing Committee jointly held a special training session on the interpretation of the RCEP and the development of the international market through the application of Internet under the situation of the epidemic. The purpose of the session is to help the enterprises to properly and rationally utilize the benefits brought by the RCEP through the correct interpretation of the RCEP, and also help the enterprises to obtain orders in the international market through the application of Internet and avoid the risks of online transactions.

At the training session, CIETAC Southwest Sub-Commission also introduced the legal risks that may exist in international trade in the Internet era, the application of the Incoterms and the United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods in practice, and how to use dispute resolution clauses to prevent legal risks, in combination with its arbitration cases.

Nearly 200 guests from foreign trade enterprises participated in the training session.
