CHINA INTERNATIONAL ECONOMIC AND TRADE ARBITRATION COMMISSION

To further promote China-Austria economic, trade, and legal cooperation, a delegation led by Xie Changqing, Vice President of China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (CIETAC) Arbitration Court, led a delegation to Austria from March 13 to 15, 2025. The delegation accompanied Ren Hongbin, Chairman of China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT), as part of the Chinese business delegation to engaged in a series of economic and trade promotion, and legal communication activities.

The CIETAC delegation attended the China-Austria Economic and Trade Cooperation Forum and the Third China International Supply Chain Expo (CISCE ) Roadshow. Ren Hongbin, Chairman of CCPIT; Matznetter, Vice President of the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber ; Frauscher, Director General for Economic Affairs, Innovation, and International Policy of Federal Ministry of Labor and Economy of the Republic of Austria ; Beger, Managing Director of the Directorate for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Innovation and Economic Transformation at the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) ; and Qi Mei, China Ambassador to Austria, attended and delivered speeches at the event. 

Over 200 representatives from Chinese and Austrian trade and investment promotion agencies, business associations, and enterprises from China and Austria attended the event and had extensive and in-depth communication.

 

 

During the visit, Vice President Xie Changqing joined Chairman Ren Hongbin in the meeting with Anna Joubin-Bret, Secretary of the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) . The two sides exchange view on actively leveraging the role of CIETAC as the observers at UNCITRAL, continuing support UNCITRAL’s initiatives, enhancing cooperation in international commercial arbitration and on multilateral platforms such as APEC, and jointly promoting trade and investment liberalization and facilitation.

 

 

CIETAC delegation also accompanied Chairman Ren Hongbin on the research tour to Huawei Austria Branch and CRRC ZELC EUROPE . During the visit, company representatives provided detailed overview of their development, achievements, challenges and future prospects in Austria.

 

 

Additionally, the CIETAC delegation actively engaged in exchanges with the local arbitration and legal communities, visiting the Austrian Arbitration Association  and the Vienna International Arbitral Centre (VIAC ). Both sides introduced their arbitration legal practices within different cultural and jurisdiction. Discussions focused on enhancing the efficiency of arbitration procedure management and exploring cooperation in arbitration legal services to meet the pressing needs of commercial entities, guaranteeing the stability and orderliness of bilateral economic, trade and investment activities. These interactions enhanced mutual understanding and laid a solid foundation for future in-depth cooperation in arbitration.

 

 

Throughout the visit to Austria, the CIETAC delegation also conducted extensive communication with local arbitration, legal, and business communities to better understand the needs of dispute resolution, promote the advantages of Chinese arbitration, and achieved fruitful results. These efforts yielded valuable insights, further enhancing CIETAC’s ability to play an active role in supporting the healthy development of China-Austria economic and trade cooperation. 

Cui Yang, Deputy Secretary-General of CIETAC European Arbitration Centre, and Liu Zhihong, Case Manager of CIETAC Domestic Cases Division, accompanied the delegation.
